Today we began our morning by looking at the Eye Opener 1. Complete the following patterns:
![]() We also revisited "Expository Writing" as we revised our spirit animal writing. Students received feedback about how to improve, make their work more specific, or elaborate on the details for the three traits or qualities of their spirit animal. We reviewed the criteria for what makes a good piece of expository writing. It includes, an introductory paragraph, supporting paragraphs that have topic sentences and details, and lastly, a concluding paragraph. Students worked to finish their simple machines books this morning. They were required to create a book that provided a definition for each of the six types of simple machines and draw and label three examples of each. If it was not completed this morning it was sent home as homework. We will be having a science quiz on Wednesday to review this material. After lunch students began new Literacy Stations during Guided Reading. There are three new stations that include: 1) a simple machines scavenger hunt, 2) rewriting a simple machines paragraph that focuses on using punctuation and capitals, and 3) writing a letter to the teacher. At the end of the day we began creating a piece of artwork based on our spirit animal writing. Students began by focusing on how to compose their image on the page and looking at a picture (breaking it down into simple shapes) as a reference. Tomorrow we will create patterns in the negative space around our spirit animal. Reminders:
