This morning we had the opportunity to go and visit some of the arcade games that the Grade 5 students created using recycled materials. They had taken inspiration from a nine year old boy that had created arcade games using cardboard boxes. You can check out his website here and watch the video below. Writing and social studies were connected today with students learning about Spirit Animals. As we have been studying First Nations culture we have focused on their deep connection to the land and the animals that allowed them to survive many years ago. Students were asked to research an animal that they felt was representative of themselves. They had to write about the characteristics or traits of that animal and tomorrow will describe why they feel they are connected to it. Ask your child about what animal they felt they were. You can find more information about them here. We also spent some time today discussing the importance of completing tasks. Students were given time to go back into some of the work they have done and look at it critically. What did they do well, what could they improve, etc. and then make those changes. In science we watched the video below that described all the simple machines in action. They were easily identifying all the simple machines we have studied. Reminders:
